Vintage 1973 Citizen Challenge Diver 4-722710-Y Serviced Original
Stunning Citizen Challenge Diver 4-722710-Y, manufactured in August 1973. The Citizen Challenge Diver was Citizen’s answer to Seiko’s hugely popular Turtle (6306/6309), produced during the same era. While the Seiko enjoyed far greater production numbers, these Citizen divers were made in much smaller quantities, making well-preserved examples like this extremely rare today, even rarer with the "Leopard" day/date display.
Powered by the Citizen Calibre 722710, a 24 jewel automatic movement featuring both day and date display, the same movement used in the highly regarded Citizen Leopard models of the era. Beating at 28,800 bph, 8 ticks per second, the movement does hack and can be hand wound and includes a quick-set date (not day) feature. The 722710 is known as one of Citizen’s most reliable automatic movements from the early 1970s, capable of maintaining stable performance even after long periods between services.
The watch features a bi-directional friction bezel (no clicks) with a black aluminium insert and a large luminous pip at 12 o’clock. The screw-down crown operates smoothly, the quick-set date functions perfectly, and the watch keeps excellent time. Just Fully serviced.
Condition is very good overall, showing only honest signs of age and wear consistent with careful use, no abuse, heavy knocks, or tool marks. The case retains its factory original finish and has not been re-polished. Dial and hands are in outstanding condition, retaining all original Citizen green lume. Case back still has some of the factory protective film in place.
Fitted with a new Uncle straps Tropic strap, in new-unworn condition.
Important Note on Water Resistance
At TEMPO PRIMA, we believe vintage watches should not be worn in water, regardless of their original specifications.
