Vintage 1971 Seiko 7017-8000 Serviced Pulsimeter Watch All Original

AU$1,255.00Price

Few vintage chronographs combine unusual functionality with classic early 1970s design quite like the Seiko 7017-8000 Pulsimeter “Doctor’s Watch.” Produced in small numbers, this fascinating variant was designed with medical professionals in mind and remains one of the more interesting chronograph dials Seiko produced during the era.

The Seiko 7017-8000 features a flyback chronograph function, allowing the sweep seconds hand to be instantly reset and restarted without first stopping the chronograph. This clever mechanism made it ideal for timing repeated intervals quickly and efficiently.

The example offered here is the seldom-seen Pulsimeter variant, designed to measure a patient’s heart rate. To use it, start the chronograph and count 15 heartbeats, either your own or a patient’s, then stop the chronograph. The pulsometer scale on the dial will indicate the heart rate in beats per minute.

This particular watch was produced in October 1971 and features a truly beautiful original dial. The luminous material on both the dial and hands has aged very nicely, and the red chronograph hand remains bright and unfaded, providing a striking contrast against the dial.

The watch is fitted with its correct and very comfortable Seiko XAA531 bracelet and clasp. The case is unpolished, retaining its original factory brushing, with only honest signs of age and careful wear.

The watch has just been fully serviced by us and is keeping very good time. The quick-set day and date functions are operating perfectly. While the seals have been replaced during servicing, the watch has not been pressure tested and should therefore not currently be considered waterproof.

Please study the photos and video carefully, as they form an important part of the description and show the condition of the watch in greater detail.

A Note on Vintage Watch Ownership

Vintage mechanical watches, while robust and reliable, are not as precise as modern quartz timepieces and require periodic servicing. Some gentle wear and natural patina should be expected with an original watch of this age.

Treated with care, a vintage watch will continue to provide enjoyment for many years to come. At TEMPO PRIMA, we believe vintage watches should not be worn in water, regardless of their original specifications. We do not pressure-test vintage watches and therefore cannot guarantee water resistance. To preserve the longevity and integrity of these timepieces, we strongly recommend keeping them dry and avoiding exposure to moisture.
