Vintage 1975 Seiko Reverse Baby Panda 6138-8001 Gray Dial Serviced Original

AU$5,500.00Price

Few vintage Seiko chronographs are as intriguing to collectors as the Seiko 6138-8001 “Baby Panda.” While the reference is best known for its classic panda dial, a very small number were produced with the striking reverse panda configuration, making them far more difficult to find today.

The example offered here is even more unusual, as it is the extremely rare no-lume dial variant. These special models were produced for a very brief period, with known examples dating only to March 1975, making them one of the most short lived dial configurations within the 6138 family.

The watch itself is in wonderful, fully original condition. The reverse panda dial is beautifully preserved, with crisp printing and excellent contrast between the dark dial and silver chronograph registers. The hands and sub-registers remain original, and the absence of luminous material on the dial and hands gives the dial a particularly clean and refined appearance.

Adding further appeal, the watch retains its very distinctive original Seiko “railroad” bracelet, ( over 19.5cm long ) complete with the correct XAB-322 end links. This unique bracelet design is seldom found still paired with the watch and contributes greatly to its originality and collectability.

The case remains sharp and honest, showing only normal signs of careful wear consistent with age, while retaining its original factory finishing.

The watch has just been fully serviced by us and is keeping very good time. All functions are operating as they should. While all seals have been replaced during servicing, the watch has not been pressure tested and should therefore not currently be considered waterproof.

A Note on Vintage Watch Ownership

Vintage mechanical watches, while robust and reliable, are not as precise as modern quartz timepieces and require periodic servicing. Some gentle wear and natural patina should be expected with an original watch of this age.

Treated with care, a vintage watch will continue to provide enjoyment for many years to come. At TEMPO PRIMA, we believe vintage watches should not be worn in water, regardless of their original specifications. We do not pressure-test vintage watches and therefore cannot guarantee water resistance. To preserve the longevity and integrity of these timepieces, we strongly recommend keeping them dry and avoiding exposure to moisture.
