This Seiko Speedmaster, crafted in March 1983, is a true milestone in horological history. Featuring the groundbreaking Seiko 7A28 movement, the world’s first analog quartz chronograph. This watch represents a pivotal moment in watch innovation.
What makes this piece even more remarkable is its rare and highly sought after signed clasp adorned with the helmet racing logo. This particular clasp, coupled with the “Speedmaster” name, led to a legal dispute with Omega. The lawsuit resulted in the discontinuation of this clasp, making it a truly limited and collectible timepiece for discerning enthusiasts.
The watch is in excellent vintage condition, maintaining its original factory finish with an untouched patina (never re-polished), which adds to its charm and authenticity. The case back polish and text remain sharp and well-preserved. It comes fitted on its original Seiko bracelet with an extension, measuring 20cm in length (18cm without the extension). A brand-new sapphire crystal has been fitted for added durability, the original seals remain intact but aged and untested, so it is not currently waterproof.
The 7A28 movement performs flawlessly, offering precise timekeeping, smooth hacking, and fully functional chronograph capabilities. New Seiko brand battery fitted.
