Vintage 1970 Grand Seiko 4522-8000 Toshiba Presentation Watch
A highly collectable Grand Seiko 4522-8000 Toshiba Presentation Watch produced in May 1970. While the standard 4522-8000 is already one of the most desirable vintage Grand Seiko references, presentation watches such as this are considerably rarer and were produced in very limited numbers. These watches were commissioned by major Japanese corporations and presented to employees in recognition of long service and achievement. Toshiba presentation Grand Seikos are among the most sought after examples today and are encountered far less frequently than the regular production model.
This watch is presented in excellent vintage condition and has clearly been well cared for throughout its life. The case retains strong factory lines and presents beautifully on the wrist, while the dial remains exceptionally clean and attractive. The original Toshiba engraving on the case back remains crisp and serves as a reminder of the watch’s unique history and significance.
Powering the watch is the legendary Grand Seiko calibre 4522A, a hand-wound Hi-Beat movement operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour. Widely regarded as one of the finest movements ever produced by Seiko, the 4522A offers exceptional accuracy, reliability, and a wonderfully smooth sweep of the seconds hand.
The movement has just undergone a complete service and is running extremely well. All functions operate exactly as they should, making this watch equally suitable for regular wear or inclusion in a serious Grand Seiko collection.
The watch comes fitted to a vintage Made in Japan Maruman bracelet. Maruman bracelets have become highly collectable in their own right and are prized by enthusiasts for their quality and period-correct styling. It complements the watch perfectly and gives it an authentic vintage appearance on the wrist.
Also included are the original presentation box and Grand Seiko Chronometer Certification booklet, accessories that are seldom found with these watches today and further enhance the collectability of this example.
Finding any vintage Grand Seiko presentation watch has become increasingly difficult, however examples presented by Toshiba are particularly scarce. With only a small number believed to have been produced each year, surviving examples complete with accessories are rarely offered for sale, making this a special opportunity to acquire one of the more unusual and historically significant Grand Seikos of the era.
Mechanically, the watch is running smoothly and keeping excellent time, with the hacking and date function working exactly as they should. As is typical with Vintage Hi-Beat movements, it may require a gentle twist or shake to get started after a full power depletion, after which it runs consistently and accurately.
