Vintage 1996 Seiko SUS 4S15-7020 “Military” Serviced
One of the more interesting mechanical watches to come from Seiko’s 1990s SUS collection, the 4S15-7020 “Military” combines a wonderfully utilitarian design with one of Seiko’s more interesting mechanical movements of the period.
Introduced in 1996, the SUS series was Seiko’s take on simple, functional watches inspired by vintage military, aviation and railway designs. The 4S15-7020 is particularly distinctive, with its compact stainless steel case, highly legible black dial, large Arabic numerals and understated utilitarian styling.
Inside is the excellent Seiko 4S15 automatic movement, a 25 jewel, 28,800 bph calibre with both hand winding and hacking seconds. The 4S15 belongs to a more sophisticated family of Seiko mechanical movements than the company’s more common entry level calibres of the period and is a particularly nice match for the character of the SUS case.
This example has just been fully serviced by TEMPO PRIMA. The movement was completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated and reassembled, then regulated and checked for reliable operation.
Adding to the appeal is an original Seiko SUS pamphlet/brochure from the 1990s, which accompanies the watch. Finding the original period literature with these watches is uncommon and makes this a particularly nice example for a collector interested in the SUS series.
The compact dimensions give it a very wearable vintage feel, while the distinctive case design gives it considerably more presence than its size might suggest.
