Vintage 1970 King Seiko Chronometer 4502-8010 Serviced

A particularly beautiful and original example of the King Seiko Chronometer 4502-8010, produced in September 1970.
 
This is the manual winding, high-beat King Seiko powered by Seiko’s Calibre 4502A, running at 36,000 vibrations per hour. The Chronometer designation reflects the high level of accuracy Seiko was pursuing with the 45 series during this period.
 
This example is in exceptionally well preserved original condition. The original dial is remarkably clean, with its crisp silver finish, applied faceted markers, original hands and beautifully aged details all remaining intact. The case retains its original sharp lines and polished/brushed surfaces, which are particularly important on these 45 series King Seikos.
 
The watch has just undergone a complete service by TEMPO PRIMA. The movement was fully disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated and carefully reassembled before being regulated and tested. The result is a beautifully clean, smooth running movement with the characteristic high-beat sweep of the 4502A calibre.
 
A new premium quality Uncle leather strap has also been fitted, chosen to complement the character of the watch while keeping the overall appearance understated and period appropriate.

As with all TEMPO PRIMA vintage watches, preservation rather than restoration is the priority. I have intentionally retained the original character and details of this watch rather than refinishing or attempting to make it look new.
 
A very special example of one of Seiko’s most interesting vintage high-beat watches, and an excellent representation of the King Seiko 45-series at the beginning of the 1970s.
 
Vintage ownership
 
A vintage mechanical watch is not expected to perform with the precision of a modern quartz watch and will require periodic servicing as part of its ownership.
 
Despite their original specifications, we recommend that vintage watches are kept away from water. TEMPO PRIMA does not pressure test vintage watches and cannot guarantee water resistance. Keeping the watch dry is the best way to protect the dial, movement, hands and other original components for the future.
