Vintage 1970 Grand Seiko GS45 Serviced HI-BEAT 4520-8000 Hand Winding

AU$1,995.00Price

Exceptional Grand Seiko 4520-8000 Hi-Beat from May 1970, featuring a beautifully aged tropical “sunburnt” dial and serviced movement.

Originally finished with a crisp white dial, this example has spent decades gently exposed to sunlight, allowing the surface to mature naturally into a rich, even golden tone. This type of tropical ageing cannot be replicated and is highly sought after by some collectors, giving the watch a warmth and character that sets it apart from standard examples.

For collectors seeking the purest expression of Grand Seiko’s Grammar of Design, the 4520-8000 stands alone. With its no-date layout and manually wound 36,000 bph hi-beat movement, this reference is widely regarded as the most desirable of the 45GS family, and is often favoured over its date equipped counterparts.

The example offered here is in outstanding original condition. The dial has developed a warm, even tropical patina that adds depth and character. The case shows no signs of repolishing, retaining well defined edges and crisp contours, with only honest wear consistent with careful use over time. It presents far better than the majority of examples seen today.

We have just completed a full service on this watch, Mechanically, the watch is running smoothly and keeping excellent time, with the hacking function working exactly as they should. As is typical with Vintage Hi-Beat movements, it may require a gentle twist or shake to get started after a full power depletion, after which it runs consistently and accurately.

Please review all photos carefully, as they form part of the description and clearly illustrate the exceptional originality and condition of this watch.

A Note on Vintage Watch Ownership

Vintage mechanical watches, while robust and reliable, are not as precise as modern quartz timepieces and may require periodic servicing. Some gentle wear and natural patina should be expected with an original watch of this age. Treated with care, it will continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.

At TEMPO PRIMA, we believe vintage watches should not be worn in water, regardless of their original specifications. We do not pressure-test vintage watches and therefore cannot guarantee water resistance. To preserve the longevity and integrity of these timepieces, we strongly recommend keeping them dry and avoiding any exposure to moisture.
