Vintage 1966 Grand Seiko High Beat Serviced Hand Winding 4520-8000 36mm.
This is a beautiful example of the 45GS series, produced in May 1966. The 45GS was the second and final Grand Seiko series manufactured by the esteemed Daini Seikosha company. This particular model, the 4520-8000, is the highly sought-after no-date variant, and it closely follows the iconic Grand Seiko “Grammar of Design” principles.
Condition
The watch is in very good original condition overall. The case shows signs of wear consistent with age, but retains its original brushed finish on the front surface between the lugs (see photos), along with well-preserved sharp lines. The case back is exceptionally clean, featuring a gold medallion with original frosting still intact.
The dial is all original, with applied Grand Seiko and Seikosha logos, and is in good condition, with some oxidisation to the edge most notable between ten and eleven o'clock.
Performance
Recently serviced and running well, with accuracy around ±10 seconds per day.
The hacking function operates properly.
During service, the mainspring was replaced due to damage from a previous repair.
Please note: If the mainspring power is depleated and the Watch has stoped, a gentle twist or shake may be needed to get the Hi Beat movement started again. Once wound, it runs consistently without issue.
