Vintage 1965 Seiko 6217-8000 Serviced 62MAS Rare JDM Original Divers Watch

A$4,950.00Price

The Seiko 62MAS, released in 1965, marked Seiko’s very first professional dive watch and was the brand’s official entry into the world of dive timepieces. With its clean, functional design, superb legibility, and distinctive case without crown guards, the 62MAS laid the foundation for every Seiko diver that followed.

The example offered here is exceptionally rare and historically significant. It was manufactured in May 1965, making it one of the earliest 62MAS watches ever produced, and is stamped with serial number 5506780. These early Watches belong to the ultra rare “small crown” variant, which was only produced for two months: April and May 1965, before Seiko transitioned to the larger crown used for the rest of the production run.

For collectors of vintage Seiko or historic tool watches, this is a once in a lifetime piece, and a true “grail” by any measure.

Condition Report:

  • Dial & Hands: Original dial, dial and hand lume are also original and in excellent condition, with no black rot, a common issue on this model.

  • Case: The case retains its original factory finish, showing only honest wear with no signs of polishing or abuse.

  • Bezel Insert: Original and unrestored, showing wear to the outer eadge, consistent with its age.

  • Movement: Just serviced and running well. The quick-set date function operates perfectly.

  • Strap: Fitted with a new Uncle Seiko premium Waffle strap and fat spring bars.

  • Water Resistance: new case back seal installed during the service, the watch has not been pressure tested and is not guaranteed to be waterproof

A Note on Vintage Watch Ownership

Vintage mechanical watches are robust and reliable, but they are not as accurate as modern quartz watches and require periodic servicing. Some signs of age and natural patina should be expected and are considered part of the character of an original vintage timepiece.

At TEMPO PRIMA, we believe original watches should be preserved rather than restored. We do not pressure-test vintage watches and therefore cannot guarantee water resistance, regardless of their original specifications. For their long-term preservation, we recommend keeping all vintage watches away from water and excessive moisture.
