A quietly exceptional piece of Japanese watchmaking
Credor occupies an unusual place within Seiko’s history. Created as Seiko’s premium dress watch division, the name has long been associated with fine finishing, restrained design and mechanical watchmaking intended to sit above the company’s more familiar Seiko branded offerings.
 
This 4S79-0020 is a particularly good example of that philosophy.
At first glance, it is an understated dress watch. Look closer, however, and there is considerably more going on. The warm champagne coloured dial has a finely textured, almost woven pattern, framed by applied gold coloured markers and a distinctive 18ct Gold Roman numeral bezel. At 9 o’clock is the power reserve indicator, while a recessed small seconds register occupies the 6 o’clock position.
The result is elegant without being overly formal, a watch that feels distinctly Japanese in its approach to proportion and detail.
 
Inside is Seiko’s Calibre 4S79, a high-beat hand wound mechanical movement operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour.
The movement incorporates 31 jewels, hacking seconds, small seconds and a power-reserve indication, with an approximate 40-hour power reserve. 
 
There is something particularly satisfying about the interaction of a manually wound movement and a power-reserve indicator. Rather than simply wearing the watch and forgetting about the mechanism inside, the 4S79 encourages a small daily ritual winding the watch and watching the reserve indicator come back to life.
 
Condition & Service
This Credor has just been fully serviced by TEMPO PRIMA. The movement was completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected, lubricated and carefully reassembled. The watch has then been regulated and tested to ensure the movement is operating as it should. Dial show a little age, but the Watch is in amazing condition overall.
 
As with all TEMPO PRIMA watches, our approach is preservation over restoration. We do not polish away the character of vintage watches or attempt to make them appear new. The aim is to preserve the original watch and allow the quality of the original Seiko/Credor design to speak for itself.
 
The watch is fitted to a new brown leather strap which complements the warm tones of the dial and gold-coloured bezel beautifully.

A Note on Vintage Watch Ownership
 
Vintage mechanical watches are robust and reliable, but they are not as accurate as modern quartz watches and require periodic servicing. Some signs of age and natural patina should be expected and are considered part of the character of an original vintage timepiece.
